Dan Jansen

The one-time darling of the Winter Olympics, Dan wanted the world to look beyond his story of family sadness and recognize him as the world class athlete he was. SMC provided speech writing, coaching, brand development, and broadcast coaching for the eventual gold medal speedskater and world record holder.

Brian Kelly

SMC's very first client was Notre Dame Football. In 1988 they led their peers by providing the first media training for student-athletes and coaches in collegiate sports. Subsequently, over the years SMC provided leading edge media training and social listening for the program. Ahead of his peers, Head Football Coach Brian Kelly tapped SMC for social media listening and brand development even as he interviewed for the heralded position.

The retired President of ESPN at one time was widely perceived as the most powerful person in the sports industry. And when he spoke publicly, George aspired to portray the magnetism of the ESPN brand. SMC delivered speech coaching and writing services as well as executive communication consulting.

And to round out their skills, the dancers annually trained to provide insightful and captivating media interviews and public appearances. Kathleen Hessert received a 2022 CICERO Speechwriting Award for Peyton Manning’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction speech. Presented by Vital Speeches of the Day, the prestigious monthly collection of speeches, the Cicero Speechwriting Awards recognize the work that makes the speeches that help leaders lead – in every sector of business, politics and society. The Cicero Speechwriting Awards website notes that “since Cicero called rhetoric a ‘great art’ more than 2,000 years ago, the world has seen the Gutenberg Press, radio, television, the internet and social media. These fundamental advances haven’t diminished the transformative social power of a great speech.”
