Top Ranked Tennessee's Coach Philip Fulmer and Texas's Mack Brown Praise New Manuel: The Coaches' Communication Playbook;

Author Kathleen Hessert Receives Praise From Country's Other Top Flight Coaches

For immediate release: (Charlotte, NC)- - In the age where professional, collegiate and high schools coaches serve as coach, cop and counselor, a new book - The Coaches' Communication Playbook, is already receiving praise from some of the country's most highly decorated head coaches, including the Mack Brown (Univ. Texas Head Football), Philip Fulmer and Pat Summit (Univ. Tennessee Head Football and Women's Head Basketball), Mike Kryzyzewski (Duke University Basketball), Tim Floyd (Chicago Bulls) and American Football Coaches Association Executive Director, Grant Teaff to name a few. All agree that coaches need to more effectively communicate with their players in order to succeed in this new age of the "MTV generation" athlete and with the surrounding organization to create synergy and success. The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.

"This book shares some of the most insightful secrets about communication and sports," says Mack Brown "Believe me, every coach –whether high school, college or professional level – can learn from The Coaches' Communication Playbook."

The Coaches' Communication Playbook is a comprehensive "how-to" communication manual for coaches at all levels - high school, college and professional - that guides the reader through the steps to improve interpersonal communications, public speaking, image, media and crisis communications skills. It contains 200 pages of proven techniques, tips, and checklists that coaches can use to create that personal bridge between him or herself and the targeted audience.

The book was written by renowned media specialist Kathleen Hessert, president of Sports Media Challenge. Hessert's background includes two other well-received sports manuels including "Power Training: How to Win at the Media Game", "Winning the Media Game: A Guide for NFL Players" and "The Pocket Guide to Avoiding Misquotes." In addition, Hessert has published articles in Athletic Management, The Extra Point, Street and Smith's Sports Business, and others. Her desire to write The Coaches Communication Playbook comes from her professional background as a long-standing media trainer, and from her personal background as a mother who saw her athletically active children developing an intimate, and very responsive relationship with their coaches. "It is necessary for coaches to know how to communicate to our kids," says Hessert. "Particularly when kids are depending more on the coaches word to help them out with life experiences that happen off the field."

In addition, Hessert based her manuscript on research and years of experience working with coaches. "I've found that coaches feel a tremendous amount of pressure and concern with their ability to effectively communicate," says Hessert. "They have come to understand that how they relay the message can make or break the outcome of a season and the effective a sport experience can have on the overall life of the child." Hessert's book aims to take some of the pain out of those concerns.

The Coaches Communcation Playbook is published by Sports Media Challenge, and includes a foreward by Deborah A. Yow, Director of Athletics at the University of Maryland. It is available for $15.95 (plus shipping and handling) through various bookstores throughout the country, including Border Books (put in proper site info).
