Sports Media Challenge launches CyberCommunicationCoachsm with Team U S West to prepare athletes for Millennium Summer Games.

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA (March 13, 2000) - Communications specialist Kathleen Hessert and her strategic communication training company Sports Media Challenge (SMC) will launch a new web-based tool for media coaching when Hessert conducts a first-of-its-kind media management session on March 13 and 14 with Olympic athletes from the Denver-based tele-communications company US West. The Cyber Communications Coach uses the Internet-technology available on SMC’s award-winning web site (www.sportsmediachallenge.com) to offer a new dimension in media training.

The Cyber Communications Coach (online tour: www.sportsmediachallenge.com/cybercoach) will allow SMC to deliver quality communications coaching to clients regardless of time or location. It expands the data available in Hessert’s industry-leading coaching sessions by providing clients with customized and secured information over the Internet. This information includes advice, client specific strategies, and digital-audio advice downloads from Hessert.

As Hessert’s client roster has grown, she has found maintaining her relationships difficult because of the time and distance between her and her clients. This holds especially true for her work with Olympic athletes. The time and geographic difference can be so great that Hessert often changes her schedule dramatically to be of service. However as technology is bringing our world together, it is removing this barrier between Hessert and her clients. "Meeting all of their needs was difficult because I could not be everywhere to give the personal attention that I pride myself on," said Hessert. "With this new technology, my response time becomes immediate and I can maintain the personal relationships and give everyone the attention they deserve."

Although the Cyber Communications Coach solves many of Hessert’s problems, the clients’ experience is her major concern. "Technology must have a sense of humanity. What I like most about this tool is that my clients will feel comfortable using it." In addition, with the Cyber Communications Coach, clients know that they are actually talking with Hessert.

The Cyber Communication Coach will allow Sports Media Challenge coaching specialists to facilitate quick exchanges and communication updates while preserving confidentiality. The two-tier program will function for both the corporations and individuals. Group clients, like Team US West, will access a customized page to review organizational talking points, receive guidance from media experts within 48 hours of asking, and exchange information in a moderated discussion. Individuals needing a higher quality of attention will access a personalized web page to handle their unique needs without interacting with a large group.
